Research

The cover

In the early years, the magazine was sub-titled "The modern guide to music and more". Originally it was to be called Cue as in the sense of cueing a record, ready to play,
but the name was changed so that it wouldn't be mistaken for a snooker magazine. The magazine logo is in the top left hand corner of the magazine. The colors are both red and white. These are two very contrasting colours which allow the logo "Q" to stand out amongst everything else on its front cover.

On this issue of "Q" there appears to be no Strapline. The main image of this issue of "Q" magazine is of the Group, "Take That". The facial expressions on the members of the group seem to be that of genuine happiness. On the main image of the magazine, there are different headlines such as, "Back for good?". This headline in particular illustrates why the members of "Take That" seem to smiling as they seem to be coming back from something. The direction of the gaze is focused toward the reader of the magazine with smiling faces showing us they are having fun and that they are happy.

The other i
mages on the front cover of the magazine consist of text such as in formation abo
ut the Q awards inside of them. On the very bottom of the cover, it says "Live Blowout!", after that it gives a list of musicians such as "Arcade Fire, Eminem & Jay-Z, Linkin Park and Beach house & more". These images a
re here to illustrate the content within the magazine and the information for certain topics such the Q Awards.
The colours of the front cover are based on red, white and black, three very contrasting colours. The red and white are used for the logo of the magazine at the top left hand corner. The colour of this logo is very bright and bold, as it is the first thing the reader pays close attention too. The colour of the text on the cover is in bold and is written in black on a white background for it to be readable.

Compared to "Kerrang" magazine, there is not a lot of text written on the cover. Although, the language which is written on the cover consists of clear information about the issue. Because of the bright colours on the magazine due to its logo and text, the readers would be able to identify with the magazine. "Q" as a magazine is which can relate to others and at the same time differ from others. The magazine "NME" has a similar style of layout on the front cover of their magazine. On the other hand, "Kerrang" magazine is different in layout and in colour schemes.

They also do not have as much content on the front cover the magazine as "Kerrang".
The format of the magazine is different to other magazines as it doesn't have as much text on the front cover of its magazine. There is a good balance of content on the front page as it is not too cramped with loads of pictures or with lots of text.
